Interesting, I tuned mine using 2 discs at a time and settled on 4, mine is a 96 and I found and reinstalled the infamous white spacer in the needle retainer as it ran too rich. However, the dealer tech changed the idle jet in mine early on. It had been done for the orginal owner and was oversize, I think that is why she traded it on a KAW, it fouled the plug within 3 days of purchase. The tech seemed to know about the problem and whatever idle/low speed circuit jet he installed is great, allows for idle mixture control. I have the same browning problem on both the headpipe and the muffler, after the connection, and where the edge of the internal baffle is. Also the end cap browns nicely. As the head pipe is double wall and pretty small inside, it would be ineresting to know if someone has experiences with changing the pipe to single wall and the effect on performance and sound. I think HD pipes are single wall and that may be why we cannot get 1/2 a HD thump with our 40 cu. in thumpers. Mine actually needed less choking when starting in cooler weather with the ST than stock. Seems to be a large variation in bikes and the ST fit mine w/o mods. I've got about 2000 miles on mine now. 4 discs are not very loud at all, 8 is really something and if you want noise, try it with the baffle and discs out. It will almost hurt your ears with the pressure wave created.
Would ilke to know more about the Jardine, and also another article I read indicated that Enfield mufflers are readily available in CA and work pretty good. I had a HD on for a short while and it directed the exhaust on the rear brake arm so I went with the ST. Now that I have more time and facilities, I may try to work on the connector to solve that problem and see how it works.
I've got about 100 miles on a ROHO air cushion and I'll report on it after some more miles. First shot seems positive as I ran a 60 miles RT and didn't have to wiggle much to be comfortable. Later, Max.
